AT WORK

For those in need of a little Job love and career inspiration

On Adjusting the Sails…

Ever had one of those emotionally overwhelming weeks where you vacillate between consuming an entire bottle of wine or sobbing down the phone to your Mum? This past week spent sadly farewelling a fallen comrade (post ‘Farewell Mon Capitaine’); reliving the loss of our beloved Telly; battling headaches and flu symptoms; a voice replaced with raspy gasps; a laptop refusing to function…the fountain of positivity positively drained. So what’s a girl to do?

Sup champagne with the Captain’s lovely wife, family and friends in celebration of a life lived to the fullest. Recall the very best of life spent with Telly. Gargle honey, lemon and Aspirin with a chaser of Codral Cold & Flu and make the most of that deep sexy voice. Light a scented candle, luxuriate in a good book. Visit the Apple store and invest in a new baby. Thank beloved laptop for her six years spent reliably and steadfastly documenting and sharing life and love, travels and book, photos and blog. She deserves it. Fountain slowly replenished, sails adjusted. Feeling better now…

Personalise that work space

How I love an organized little spot to get the creative juices flowing, pay the bills, contemplate, dream. Love to keep my office desk clear, clutter free, same at home. If working from home, even more critical.

A story board for depicting places to visit or inspirational ideas for interior decorating, fab fashion finds or simply visualised goal outcomes providing inspiration to turn ‘one day’ to reality.

Cute boxes for storing all those office bits and bobs.  I use mine to store ribbon, wrapping and gift cards, printer paper, photography stuff, all those electronic cords that mysteriously multiply when left to their own devices, iPhone and camera bits and so on.

A simple filing system for bills and receipts to stay well ahead at tax time.  I personally love Kikki K folders for bills, receipts, manuals,  ‘grab and go’ critical documents and financial plannning. My next mission….scan, store in cloud and go paperless…bliss!

Look out for my Let’s Get Organised – Top 10′ post coming shortly, meanwhile, a few visuals to get you started…notice the one constant? Clean surfaces!

The simple pleasures…

My Mum and I spent this Christmas together. Just the two of us. On Christmas morning she presented me with a small stocking filled with my childhood favorites, to which she had added a small bright red pot housing a plastic sunflower with a sweet smiling face, knowing full well I’m not one for such nick knacks.

Each morning Mum checked to ensure the flower was fulfilling her solar powered swaying duties on the balcony railing and reported in accordingly, a sheepish grin on her face for I know she was reading my mind…just another useless piece of clu20140105-111145.jpgtter, geez! And every day we sat on the balcony sipping tea, gossiping, laughing, debating and generally reveling in the precious time we had together as ‘Lizzie’ the benignly smiling sunflower looked on.

Farewelled Mum today and returned home with a heavy sadness for she lives so far away and visiting requires so much more than a packed lunch. There, swaying gaily on the balcony railing sat the smiling sunflower. I smiled right back for here was the essence of my Mum, right here in my home. A woman brilliant and capable and with the enviable ability to find the time to stop and enjoy the simple pleasure a little solar powered smiling flower can provide. Lizzie, by the way, just earned her permanent residency in my home. Oh dear!

Love you Mum.
